Mexico's tourist destinations are safe to travel to right now. Homicide rates have declined across 2024 and 2025 under the Sheinbaum administration, the main tourist regions (Cancún, Riviera Maya, Mexico City's Polanco/Roma/Coyoacán, Yucatán, Cabo, Oaxaca) operate normally, and the cartel-violence problem remains concentrated in specific states tourists generally aren't visiting anyway. I've been to Mexico City, Cancún, Yucatán and Cabo across 2024 and 2025. None of it felt remotely sketchy if you stayed in the zones you're supposed to stay in. The honest qualifier: Mexico isn't uniformly safe. It never has been. Sinaloa, Guerrero, Tamaulipas and Michoacán are still Level 4 territory.
